What Happens During your First Treatment?
Your first session includes a consultation with one of our licensed practitioners, where they will review your symptoms, medical history, and overall health. Based on your specific needs, they will recommend a treatment plan, including session frequency and any herbal supplements that might be beneficial.
If you decide to proceed with acupuncture treatment, sterile acupuncture needles will be inserted into specific points on your body. You’ll rest with the needles in place under heat lamps, and additional techniques like moxibustion (burning an herb above the skin to apply heat to acupuncture points) or mild electrical stimulation may be applied. Patients often feel either relaxed or energized after treatment. The initial visit typically lasts between 60 to 90 minutes.
When is the Best Time to Start Acupuncture?
It’s best to start acupuncture as soon as you experience pain or injury. Early treatment can speed up healing, reduce treatment costs, and prevent complications like scar tissue buildup, which could lead to surgery. If surgery is necessary, acupuncture can also support faster recovery by improving blood flow and reducing scar tissue. Treatments can begin as early as three days after surgery.
How Many Treatments do I Need?
The number of treatments varies based on the condition and how quickly you seek treatment. For acute issues, starting treatment within a month of the injury or immediately is ideal. Delayed treatment may require more sessions due to scar tissue formation.
Here are some examples of treatments for acute conditions:
-
Tennis elbow: 2-4 treatments
-
Sciatica: 3-5 treatments
-
Knee pain: 2-5 treatments
