Clinical Internship

Inheritance & Innovation — Why We Mentor Interns

We don’t only inherit; we pass it on. This is why I mentor interns. What I learned from Academician Prof. Shi Xuemin – his medical ethics of treating every patient like family, his clinical thinking, and the precision of Xing Nao Kai Qiao (XNKQ), must be carried forward and shared.

We also innovate. We cannot stop at what our teachers gave us; we must study, refine, and extend it. Over the past 20+ years, under Prof. Shi’s mentorship, I have applied XNKQ beyond stroke to a range of brain-related conditions including ADHDTourette’s, stress/anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, and neuro-endocrine issues such as HPG-axis dysregulation in infertility.

One school-age patient with ADHD/Tourette’s achieved sustained remission and later became Miss Arizona (2013), a story that has been publicly documented. In infertility care, our brain-centered regulation approach has helped many couples’ welcome healthy babies and build happy families.

Our hope for every intern: learn the lineage with respect, then develop your own excellence. At Eastern Medicine Center, we will teach without reservation and support you to:

Honor The Lineage

Ethics, patient-first mindset, and precise technique.

Engage With Evidence

Careful charting, outcome tracking, and modern research literacy.

Innovate Responsibly

Test ideas in supervised clinic, reflect on cases, and grow your unique clinical style.

We pass the torch to you, so you can carry it farther.

Our Lineage & Teaching Philosophy

For over 20 years I toured the U.S. with my teacher, Academician Prof. Shi Xuemin, serving as his translator while he taught Xing Nao Kai Qiao (XNKQ). From him I learned not only excellent clinical methods, but also medical ethics—treat every patient as family. Under his mentorship, I refined clinical thinking, treatment strategy, and needle techniques (especially XNKQ), and I now pass these skills on to practitioners and students.

At Eastern Medicine Center (EMC) we provide a true clinical environment for learning:

  • 10 treatment rooms designed for efficient teaching and patient comfort.
  • An in-house herbal dispensary with 400+ fresh dried herbs for hands-on training in classical and modern compounding.

What You Will Learn

  • XNKQ methodology: indications, point selection, sequencing, manipulation, and clinical reasoning.
  • Treatment thinking: pattern differentiation → strategy → point/technique selection → outcome tracking.
  • Herbal practice: formula design, modifications, safety, and pharmacy workflow.
  • Integrative literacy: reading labs and medical reports so you can communicate with patients who have already seen Western providers.
  • Professional standards: HIPAA, Clean Needle Technique, informed consent, documentation, and patient communication.

Training Formats

  1. One-on-One Intensive
    • Personalized, case-driven instruction at the table and in post-case debriefs.
  1. Small Group (up to 5 participants per day)
    • Structured observation + supervised practice, peer learning, and round-table reviews.

Eligibility & Prerequisites

  • Coursework completed: Interns must have finished the U.S.-required academic curriculum before beginning at EMC.
  • Higher internal standards: Our expectations exceed typical school requirements.
  • Western-medicine foundation: If you lack WM background, you will study in parallel (e.g., how to read lab work, imaging summaries, and common diagnoses).
  • Compliance: All interns must follow HIPAA Privacy Policy, Clean Needle Technique (CNT), and Arizona Acupuncture Board regulations while in our clinic.
  • Hands-on vs. observation: Scope of participation depends on licensure/student status, insurance, and patient consent.

What to Expect in Clinic

  • Daily pre-brief (case goals) and post-brief (clinical reasoning, outcomes, refinements).
  • Real-patient encounters emphasizing safety, ethics, and compassion.
  • Exposure to herbal dispensing and formula adjustments.
  • Clear feedback loops and skill checklists.

How to Apply

Please apply and call for details.

  • A brief CV/resumé and your license/student verification.
  • Confirmation of coursework completion (transcript or official letter).
  • Preferred dates (one-on-one or group) and learning goals.
  • If applicable, proof of malpractice insurance (or school coverage).

We share what we know without reservation, and we view every internship as a two-way learning opportunity. We look forward to working with you.
